It’s a funny and moving story about love, loss and the awakening for romance after a tragic death. Throughout the play, we could also hear the homage paid to Luís de Camões, our greatest poet, whose sonnets about love complimented Tchekov’s words brilliantly. It was brilliantly executed by the Grupo de Teatro Amador de Santo Tirso, who is also rehearsing other Tchekov’s plays in a cicle dedicated to the Russian playwright. With the intimate setting of our art nouveau club as the perfect plateau for a 19th century story, our students had the opportunity of speaking to the cast at the end of the play and of learning a little more about the secrets of the trade, and were also invited to take part in an open-training session for wannabe actors.
It was a great afternoon for us all, and we were all inspired to take up acting!
Ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-91277692792388261242009-12-02T03:51:00.000-08:002009-12-02T03:57:06.067-08:00Twist - Your Energy Makes a Difference!
Twist – Your energy makes a difference. This is the catch-phrase of the new and exciting project in which Cidenai students will take part. It’s a partnership between EDP, ERSE and SDC with the institutional help of our Ministry of Education and UNESCO and the goal is to make young people aware not only of the impact that their actions have on the planet, but also of the small changes they can make everyday to lessen this impact. It will involve an energy-driven-questionnaire to the whole school, the organization of a conference about power efficiency, an audit to the school’s power consumption and a final report with the data gathered from all these activities.
The first step towards winning the first prize was taken this Friday, November 20th, when four students from the Secretariate B course (Ana Rita Ferreira, Cristiana Barros, Ana Rebelo and Patrícia Machado) travelled to Porto, to participate in the Regional Workshop, with hundreds of other students from the northern region of our country.
It was a very interesting morning, and on the way back, everyone was full of great ideas.
Let’s make a difference and change our school!

http://www.twist.edp.pt
Ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-46787094421706727582009-10-12T03:45:00.000-07:002009-10-14T08:13:05.168-07:00Welcome Back!
On September 11th, at 14.30, We had our Annual Opening Ceremony, in which we showed our new students what we can do and what is expecting them for the next three years. We also said goodbye to your seniors, wishing the best for their future. Throughout the ceremony, that had the participation of a representative from DREN, Dra. Paula Cunha, from the City Hall, Dra. Júlia Godinho, a representative from our board, Dra. Celina Silva, our Head Mistress, Albertina Pimenta and Nuno Barbosa, organizer of our European Club, students could see images of activities that take place over throughout the year and that always cause great anticipation, such as our end-of-year trip and the coveted Leonardo traineeships. Students that participated last year were also awarded the Mobility Europass, a proof of personal and professional achievement.
After the musical moment, in which Teacher Nelson and Teacher Fernando performed Mozart Duets for Clarinet, wowing the audience, it was time for graduation: one by one, our classes of 2009 took centre stage to receive a fair prize of three years hard work. Finally, our Vale Dictoria, Patrícia Freitas, got a cheque for 500€, the icing on the cake after all her work.
After all the speeches, it was time to take a deep breath and start a new year, looking forward to all the experiences that this school can provide. Have a great one, everyone!
Ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-83291692593830537542009-07-27T04:39:00.000-07:002009-10-12T04:27:25.719-07:00The year in review
This was a quieter year for English@Cidenai. There were no major movie productions or big trips to foreign countries. And if last year our subject was focused on the Environment and Health, this year the focus was on Society, the World around us and Consumerism.
The year was off to a great start when our year 12 classes travelled to Braga, to celebrate the European Day of Languages: our students tried Japanese, Chinese, German, Spanish and Greek. It was a great day and on the bus ride home all we could ear was wunderbar, konichiwa, among all the other new words that we learned. It was a meeting of sounds and cultures that everyone will surely benefit from. Then, in December, with Christmas approaching was time to think of those less fortunate than us. Solidarity and love were in everyone’s hearts when we paid a visit to ASAS, to try and help to make the ASAS’ kids happier during the holidays. Our Management Class embodied Santa and gave the kids presents and holiday greetings. It was good for everyone, we now all appreciate what we have much more!
With the new year around the corner, and after the sounds of music from our Christmas Party (Mariah eat your heart out!), it was time for our yearly exhibition of Advertising: this time for vintage products with a modern twist. It was another great success. It was almost time for Valentine’s, and this time Cupid was played by our Computer Technicians… not so tough after all, distributing poems and cards by all the lovers or lovers-to-be in our school. Love was totally in the air so when March came Poetry came naturally with it. After paying a visit to the performances at the Old Jailhouse, our year 11 students were inspired to write beautiful love poems. And who could forget the Environmental Awareness week with Commerce’s pamphlets? We should always care about our Planet!
We ended the year like we started it, around the world. Our Municipality Celebrations included an ethnographic parade and Cidenai was of course represented by what is our Trademark: Culture and Travel. Our float was a mix of nationalities and cultures, all surrounding the icing on the cake, our beautiful globe. It was the living proof that we always save the best for last!
To read everything about our activities in detail, please visit English-at-cidenai.blogspot.com. There you will find poems, reviews… and an open invitation to participate! See you next year, everyone!!

Ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-29201714945443385102009-07-27T04:36:00.000-07:002009-10-12T04:27:38.958-07:00Cidenai around the World
Last Sunday, July 12th, It was Parade Day in Santo Tirso and of course, Cidenai and the Institute were there. This law seems to be broken in a crime committed precisely by robot Sonny. Sonny is the real culprit. There is a possibility that Robots have found a way to break the laws of robotics and this can allow them to dominate, the planet, since nothing could prevent them from subduing humans. To investigate the case detective Del Sponner is called, who with the help of Dr. Susan Calvin will uncover what really happened.

Del Spooner didn’t like robots, because one day he had an accident with a 12 year-old girl. In this accident she had 11% to survive and he had 35%. What happened is that the robots were also planned to save people with a bigger percentage of surviving.

Dr. Susan Calvin likes robots a lot. She depended on robots in addiction to being scientist in this area she was also the robot psychologist, so she understood them.

Robot Sonny was a robot with a completely different programme. He could dream and feel and he was the only robot with that type of programming.

I think this film was made on the basis of showing people how our future may be, full of new technologies. It has enough action and shows that almost all the robots are not in the life of human.

Can this be Reality?

Yes, I think so, because increasingly the technologies are progressing day by day, what might happen in the future is that robots are a reality.

Is Vicky Right: “Do you need to eliminate some humans to save thankind?”

Yes and No, because this world was made for humans not for robots. For a couple of hours, students went from cell to cell and saw different performances and art installations; little girls dancing to fado and hip-hop, prisioners longing for kind words to shorten their time and for messengers for their love, a woman dresses in quilts and living among quilts, all beautifully presented and with an appropiate soundtrack. It was a day for sharp sensitivities and poetic inspiration for all.
Ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-50844630101371958372009-03-05T05:22:00.000-08:002009-10-12T04:28:29.563-07:00RoboParty 2009
Congratulations to our Students António Moreira, Roberto Pereira, Rui Abreu and Tiago Ferreira for their great participation in Minho University's Roboparty this year. There were songs in English, Portuguese and French and there was everything, from the classics to new up-dated versions of old favourites: Gloria in Excelsis Deo, All I Want for Christmas is You, Petit Pap Nöel among others, were some of the songs that got everyone in a Christmas mood. Then, after the students, was the teachers' turn, with everyone trying to sing along to "A Todos Um Bom Natal". It was a great day and the perfect ending to a good school term. Merry Christmas everyone and see you next year!!
Ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-91567180960210217982008-12-05T10:16:00.000-08:002009-10-12T04:29:14.768-07:00Christmas with ASAS

On Friday, 5th December, it was Solidarity Day for the students of the Management class. Inspired by the Christmas spirit, our students created many boxes full of presents and holiday cheers for the people who need them the most: Children. We set out to visit ASAS, one of our local charities and after the presents were given, the students had the opportunity to spend time with the children. We played, fed and nurtured them for as long as we could, but the visit couldn't go on forever and when we left we all had those kids in our hearts. It was a great morning and hopefully not the last meeting between Cidenai and ASAS. Have a Merry Christmas!!
Ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-32343494982984569442008-12-05T09:58:00.000-08:002009-10-12T04:29:33.637-07:00Magusto 2008

On Friday, November 7th, our school gathered up for the traditional roasted chestnuts, or Magusto, and it was a day of fun and celebration, although St. Peter wasn't exactly on our side. In the morning, there were games between teachers and students and sports and quizzes. The Female Teachers' Team was the obvious victor :) In the afternoon, after the chestnuts, each class had a performance, and a full audience indulged in the come back of DZR'T, Tony and Mickael Carreira, a Techtonic Crew and many singing and dancing numbers. We all had fun. To top of the evening, Mister and Miss Cidenai were chosen through a game of dancing chairs. That’s right, we did! With all of our 12th grades we travelled to Braga to join the celebrations at Universidade do Minho and we all had a ball! Our students tried Japanese, Chinese, German, Spanish and Greek and many have decided to enter a competition in which they have to write the ending of a short story… let your pens fly! It was a great day and on the bus ride home all we could ear was wunderbar, konichiwa, among all the other new words that we learned. It was a meeting of sounds and cultures that everyone will surely benefit from. A big thanks to all the teachers from Minho University for being so kind and patient with our mistakes! The video is very realistic, and shows us what we are doing to the world, we are destroying it. In the end of the video Nature turns itself against us and is reborn, but in real life that won’t happen. The environment is very sick and degraded, nowadays we see the consequences of the planet’s “diseases”: global warming, endangered species, etc. Many ways to preserve the environment are recycling, stop tress cut-down, turn off the water when we brush our teeth, and the most important is to preserve what is left of the world. Saving the earth is in our hands, we just have to do simple things and change our habits, one minute for person makes a lot of difference in the world. Stop and think about what are we doing to our planet … It won’t last forever!!

Liliana Costa 11º Gestão
Ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-5004360983737119852008-07-29T06:42:00.001-07:002009-10-12T04:31:54.605-07:00THE YEAR IN REVIEW
This year, the activities of the English subject at Cidenai were very oriented to two of the most urgent topics of our society: the Environment and Health. Everything we did was around these two problems: shouldn’t school be the primary place for learning what to do to save the Earth and how to eat right?
With these two assumptions in mind we decided to participate in the Italian Project “Food4U”, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture. In this project two of our classes created a video spot about healthy eating. Both spots, called “Snow White” and “Smart Choices” were done enthusiastically by the classes of 11º Gestão and 10º Comércio and even though they didn’t win the competition, they are proud of their work and so are we!
Then came the protection of the planet: a big number of activities involving the entire school have been carried out throughout the year. The class 11º Secretariado made a few pamphlets about topics that they considered important, like “Endangered Animal” and “The melting of the Ice Poles”. Then the class 11º Gestão created what was called “31 Ways to Save the World”, in which 31 ideas to help save the planet were spread out through the school walls. No one can say they don’t know what or how to help!
Then we also had poetry and advertising competitions: the class of 12º Secretariado created lively and social driven commercials which were exhibited during the first term in room B2 and the classes of 11º Gestão and 11º Secretariado wrote beautiful poems to the important people in their lives. They’re poets and they know it!
It was a great year for the English language and everyone worked really hard. If you want to know more, read some poems or see the videos, you can visit the English blog at English-at-Cidenai.blogspot.com. Let’s keep up the good work!
Ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-86085680672854366812008-06-06T10:25:00.000-07:002009-10-12T03:43:10.842-07:00LOVE CORNER“Believe..”

I think of you,
In your way of being.
You make yourself special,
I don´t want to lose you.

You are very sweet,
Sometimes too much…
One different person
And with a lot of ideals.

I like talkig to you,
Listening to you
And to hug you…
Who knows one day…
Feel you…
The wish to kiss you,
The need to love you!!!

I feel you more and more on me…
I want you with me,
I want you in my heart…
Believe me…
You are more than a friend!

Ana Marisa, 11º GestãoRitahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10937821193924587303noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8922021984806161319.post-3819678997326171682008-06-04T04:05:00.000-07:002009-10-12T03:43:34.219-07:00Greece?
